Boston Urban Forest Coalition Classic Communications works closely with Boston’s Urban Forest Coalition (BUFC), playing a lead role in the development of a detailed marketing and public relations plan. Classic provided creative services for the design of the new organization’s logo and also helped with the creation of the organization name and slogan, “Healthy trees, healthy people.” Classic assists in the maintenance of BUFC's website, www.bostonforest.org, and handles media relations for the Coalition, and it provides management services to assist with events such as tree plantings and other special events. In October, 2006, Classic managed BUFC's Planting Peace: An Evening With Nobel Laureate Dr. Wangari Maathai. Planting Peace, which served as a fundraiser for BUFC, was held at Boston's historic Faneuil Hall and featured an inspiring presentation by Dr. Maathai, the 2004 Nobel Peace Laureate. In addition to event management for Planting Peace, Classic Communications also headed a marketing campaign that brought in numerous corporate and individual sponsorships, as well as a successful media outreach effort that led to coverage in several publications of note. Classic Communications has been instrumental in BUFC's partnership with the City of Boston and the U.S. Forest Service to plant 100,000 new trees in Boston by 2020. The initiative, called "Grow Boston Greener," will increase the City's urban forest canopy cover by 20%, and it comes on the heels of a comprehensive inventory of Boston's street trees, completed in 2006.
